Word list sources and licenses

The base vocabulary of this site comes from the ENABLE word list, which is in the public domain and serves purely as a general English word stock. It is a general-purpose dictionary list rather than a tournament word list for any commercial board game. Word frequency data comes from the FrequencyWords project by hermitdave, derived from the OpenSubtitles 2018 corpus and licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0; we use it to sort our lists so that the most familiar words appear first. Part-of-speech information comes from Princeton WordNet 3.1, used under the WordNet license, copyright Princeton University.
