About wordling.net
A small independent portal for word games and word tools, built for people who enjoy taking English apart letter by letter.

wordling.net is run by a small independent team that likes word puzzles enough to build the tools it wanted to use. Everything here is free and works instantly in your browser: guessing games, anagram and letter puzzles, word lists sorted by length, and filters that let you narrow a list by starting letter, ending letter, or the letters you have already confirmed. The site is the English-language sister of wordling.de, which serves German players, and the two share the same idea with vocabulary suited to each language.
The quality of a word site lives and dies with its word list, so ours is assembled from open, documented sources. The base vocabulary comes from the ENABLE word list, which is in the public domain. Frequency ranking comes from the FrequencyWords project by hermitdave, built on the OpenSubtitles 2018 corpus and published under CC-BY-SA 4.0, which is why the most familiar words appear first in every list. Part-of-speech information comes from Princeton WordNet 3.1. Full licensing details are on the imprint page.
Your progress belongs to you. Streaks, best times, solved puzzles and settings live in your browser's local storage, which means they stay on the device you played on and travel nowhere else. You can start playing the moment a page loads, and the games keep working the same way whether you visit once a month or every morning with coffee. Clearing your browser data resets the counters, so treat a long streak as something local and personal rather than a stored account record.
The site earns its hosting through advertising, and we measure traffic with aggregated, cookie-free analytics that tell us which pages people find useful. That feedback shapes what gets built next: a new game, a better filter, a word list at a length that keeps coming up in searches. If you spot a word that looks wrong, a puzzle that behaves oddly, or a tool you wish existed, write to us at info@wordling.de and we will take a look.
